I[, Walda Heywat’s disciple, now] copy down a book of wisdom,4 inquiry, philosophy, and counsel5 that a great teacher of our nation composed, whose name was Walda Heywat.

May the blessing of his God, and the wisdom of our glorious creator’s mysteries, and the observing of his righteous laws remain with all the children of Ethiopia, now and forever, Amen!
